A native of Co. Kildare, educated at Newbridge College and University College Dublin, where he graduated in Agricultural Science. John Dardis was engaged in beef and tillage farming for many years. He also worked as an agricultural journalist and was Arable Editor with the Farmers Journal for 21 years and was Agricultural Journalist of the Year in 1978.
A former chairman of the Progressive Democrats, Mr Dardis was a member of the Seanad from 1989 to 2007, serving as Deputy Leader of the Seanad for 10 years. He served on Kildare County Council from 1991 to 2003.
Other appointments include membership of the National Forum for Europe; the All-party Committee on the Constitution; the joint Committee on European Affairs 1979 to 2007. Mr Dardis was also an alternate member of the British- Irish Parliamentary Body 2002 – 2007. John is currently vice president of the RDS and incoming president for 2023 to 2026.
