Paddy O’ Keeffe

Paddy O’Keeffe was an active member of the Irish Grassland Association since its foundation in late 1946. Mr O’Keeffe was appointed editor of the journal in 1951 and retired from that role in 1988 but continued in the role of chief executive until 1993. He wrote a column in the weekly newspaper until his death. The Irish Farmers Journal was and continues to be supportive of the IGA. Paddy made an immense contribution to Irish Agriculture throughout his life and was an avid supporter of the importance of low-cost grass-based production in Ireland. Mr O’Keeffe was chairman of the Agricultural Trust which he set up with John Mooney in 1961. He was also founding chairman of the FBD Insurance company in 1967.

Paddy O’Keefe served as President of the Irish Grassland Association from 1967-1968. In 2009 Paddy was the first recipient of the IGA Lifetime Merit Award in recognition of his lifetime contribution to the understanding and application of grassland husbandry.
